What started as a small idea to make a video game quickly became the largest project I’ve ever undertaken. Over the course of a year and a half, I built a full playable demo and continued developing it into a complete commercial product in my spare time. This process required learning and applying skills across art, C programming, production management, writing, version control, and long-term project planning, as well as managing collaborators and playtesters.

Pilgrim: Unto Shadow is a classic-style RPG featuring a custom-built combat system. The game includes over 30,000 words of narrative content, and I created nearly every art asset, trailer, and promotional material myself, with support from one close collaborator. I also designed and implemented a full testing pipeline, including a custom bug-reporting website that allowed multiple testers to submit issues efficiently and helped me manage fixes as a solo developer.
In addition to development, I built and managed the studio’s web presence, handled media outreach, and produced marketing content. One of the most ambitious components of this project was launching a full Kickstarter campaign, which debuted in early February and raised approximately $1,000 in early backing. Regardless of the campaign’s final outcome, the experience taught me an enormous amount about fundraising, marketing, production pipelines, and shipping a real product — and remains one of the most meaningful projects I’ve worked on.
