For my undergraduate capstone project, I designed and built an assistive robotic system intended to improve mobility access for individuals with impaired movement. The robot was designed to autonomously drive alongside a medical stand, allowing users to move more freely without needing to manually transport equipment.
The project was developed in collaboration with Western Digital, combining mechanical design, embedded systems, and AI-based perception. As the robot operates, it uses AI to detect nearby obstacles, dynamically adjust its path, and navigate safely through shared environments.
The system is designed to follow a user while maintaining stability and awareness, ultimately guiding the medical stand to the destination the user is moving toward. This project brought together robotics, AI, and human-centered design, emphasizing reliability, safety, and real-world usability.
